Shit Disco - Kingdom of Fear

Released 16th April 07 on Fierce Panda

Reef reviews debut from Scottish art punks and Viz letters page sponsors, Shit Disco

It ain’t a real party if ShitDisco haven’t crashed it. While it’s unlikely you’ll see it adorning television screens under the impending slew of summer party albums, ‘Kingdom of Fear’ is the party soundtrack to squats, slums and caravans. Give them a chance and they’d probably do a favela tour.

"Wit, relentless energy and an invading sense of the good times are hammered out"

Rife with degenerate party spirit, ‘Kingdom of Fear’ wastes little time in introducing itself. Howling like a demonic Joe Strummer, Joel Stone energizes the troops with a rally of whoops, hollers and the repetitive call to arms of ‘1! 2! I know Kung Fu!’ while the incessant bee bop of ‘Reactor Party’ with its plodding cartoonish casio tones and barked vocals probably saw him dementedly chasing his tail.

Wit, relentless energy and an invading sense of the good times are hammered out to a melange of clamoured, incoherent mumblings, delicious falsettos and disco funk laden goodness. There’s little in the way of variation but when it’s as raucously infectious and gloriously shambolic as ‘Kingdom of Fear’ there’s no thought of a come down.

Much like that pesky STD you just couldn’t shake off, some might find Sh*tDisco’s contagious belligerence too much to handle. For everyone else, they’re here to remind you just how much fun it was getting it in the first place.
